Jack, thanks for the interest. The idea is to pronounce it "koh-doo-me", the 'u' and the 'i' pronounced as in 'sushi'.

The idea is:
(1) I like how it sounds (important!) - I can thus identify with it.
(2) It doesn't include 'edit' or 'text' in the name - which could be limiting.
(3) It means 'hacking' in Esperanto - so it can be explained.
(4) It has a certain Japanese slant to it - which can be useful...

Thanks for the 'word play' suggestion, although I was not aware of it until now.

How do you pronounce kodumi? My best guess is something like "code dummy". Is that the idea, sort of a play on words?

David, thanks a lot for your feedback. It is indeed a very valuable perspective. There are two main areas to address in order to finish kodumi 1.0, together with tying together a miriad loose ends. The other, earlier product I'm planning would be the technology of one of these areas cast as a Visual Studio add-in, so it doesn't mean a great distraction from the main goal - but it may allow me to increase revenue earlier, and these things also help with motivation (a long development process is very tiring).

In any case, I will consider your point. Maybe I am aiming too high with 1.0 and I should release a more basic version first.

I'll let you know as soon as I have news in this regards. Thanks for checking back and for sharing your thoughts!

Sorry to hear the third fact that kodumi will not be the next product that you release. Personally, think it should have been the first product and is the product with the most promise.

Sure, there are lots of editors out there, but editors are personal things, and there are few really good editors with excellent vi support.

I've been checking back here for a LONG time for the release of ngedit.

Brennan, thanks for commenting. I'm very alive and very working, not blogging much though :)

Porting to VC6.0 would be a huge effort, I think, as the host architecture is completely different (a complete rewrite, I think). Soon I'll have the new "retargetable" vi/vim core, which would be of much help, but I'd have to learn the "new" old plugin environment. Probably my effort is more wisely spent somewhere else, I'm afraid. Anyway, who knows!

Good luck yourself too!

Howdy J. Glad to hear your're still alive and working. I haven't posted much if anything on my own project too. No real point until there's a real product. Kodumi sounds like a decent name, too. Can I suggest that perhaps something holding back viemu sales is that it only supports VS2003+? IIRC. I still use 6.0 and am resisting upgrading with all my might. I am also a vim fanatic. I'd expect that's not uncommon-- if people love vim, they'll dislike having to use VS, especially the latest, weirdest, least vim-like versions. Anyway, if you port to VC6.0, you'll have at least one sale (to me) that same day! Good luck!

Hi J, it's always fun to read about your endeavors. I'm looking forward to kodumi, which I think is a fine name, btw. Despite the myriad text editors out there, I think you'll have something refreshing to offer. Best regards!
